Weekly reviews that stick

Kanban board planning session

Weekly performance reviews die for predictable reasons: too many slides, too many status monologues, and no decision owner. The fix is not a longer meeting โ€” it is a narrower purpose.

Open with exceptions

Begin with the five items that breached threshold, not a tour of green tiles. If nothing breached, celebrate briefly and spend the time on a leading signal that is drifting.

Assign a clock and a scribe

Twenty-five minutes works when someone guards the clock and someone captures actions in a shared note. Without those roles, reviews expand until people stop preparing.

Carry forward only unfinished decisions

A sticky review tracks open decisions across weeks. New charts can wait; unresolved ownership cannot. This is where business analytics meets management hygiene.

Protect the ritual in peak season

When volume spikes, shorten the pack rather than cancelling. A ten-minute exception stand-up preserves continuity better than a month of silence followed by a post-mortem.

Floor Cohort includes a Weekly Review Design Studio for practising this agenda with peers. See courses.
